Pytania pośrednie mają uprzejmy charakter. Pytanie jest wprowadzane przez zwrot grzecznościowy (np. Could you tell me ...). Właściwe pytanie zostaje zmienione na zdanie twierdzące. Pytania typu "tak/nie" poprzedza "if" lub "whether". W przypadku zdań z wyrazem pytającym ten wyraz poprzedza właściwe pytanie.
