Forest fire – Elodie’s story
The Earth is getting hotter. The temperature is 1.15°C higher than a hundred years ago. People are worried about the growing number of forest fires. 4.1. ___. Elodie, a 14-year-old Australian girl from Bateman’s Bay, New South Wales, told us what it was like to survive the fire that destroyed her home. That summer the temperatures were extremely high. It was almost 40°C. Her parents knew that there were fires in the area, but they believed that they were safe. But then the fires got closer and closer. They decided to evacuate.4.2. ___ . The situation worsened when the police closed the motorway. Now it was too dangerous to leave the town by car. Luckily, Bateman’s Bay is on the coast. So they moved towards the harbour. 4.3. ___. They asked the police for help and they reached a safe place by police boat. When Elodie returned home there was nothing left. Although Elodie is sad because she has lost her home, she is thankful that she and her family survived. Lots of people died.
