Journalists — the good ones, anyway — also admit, and apologize for, their mistakes. That’s part of the gig. Name another profession where people do that without being coerced into it.
Depending on what your areas of coverage are, you get to hold people in power to account. You get access to the upper stratas of business, the military, and government, and you get to ask them pointed questions. Sometimes, when you’re dealing with someone who has their ass kissed 24/7 and thinks they deserve that treatment from everyone, it takes balls of steel to do that without flinching.
Without journalists, we’d know only a tiny fraction of the truth about any of the corrupt, scandalous, self-serving reign of error that the American people have been subjected to for the last 3.5 years (and before that as well).
Which is why we’re “the enemy of the people.” Because we get under someone’s toxic orange skin. And that’s a reward in itself.
