In comics (and in some episodes of the animated series) Gargamel's primary goal was to catch the Smurfs that he needed as a philosophical ingredient (according to the spell he found, you can melt the Smurf into gold in ricin).
Later, his motivations were simplified and for Gargamel to become simply eating the Smurfs or destroying them out of revenge for letting go. In some episodes, he hates them because they are joyful. His attempts to catch the Smurfs usually fail or turn against him.
Gargamel is poor - usually he has nothing to eat (then he hopes to catch a Smurf animal). He wears patched black clothes with a screened appearance in newly introduced shoes. He has a ginger cat named Klakier, and in the later episodes of the series he is joined by Nicpoń's students. His favorite saying is "How I hate Smurfs!" and (when something threatens him) "Mommy!". Gargamel is still on the tail of Clapper and Clapper is screaming.
The wizard Baltazar Gargamel begins with the godfather. While visiting him, Gargamel is introduced as the venerable Gargamel of the Ruin.
Gargamel is responsible for creating Smurfette. In the comics, he created it as revenge, hoping that it would break the Smurfs, but in the end the story ended well, and in the animated series to use her as a spy, she, however, instead of revealing the location of the Smurfs village to him, joined them.
