I was on a skiing trip in Zakopane last week. It was an amazing adventure because I witnessed a blodcurdling situation.
After I got to the top of the hill decided to wait for a friend to join me. I was checking my helmet and gloves when I noticed the cable car stopped right above my head. There was a group of people in it.
It took five minutes or so but the car wouldn't move and the people inside were getting uneasy about it. The car was swaying from side to side, and I realized something was wrong with the passengers. They were desperately crying for help while trying to open the window.
I used my cell phone to call the upper station and within seconds the rescuers were on the spot. As soon as they arrived they confirmed they had problems with getting the ski lift started again so they begun climbing the mast to get these people out and provide medical help if needed. Indeed, an elderly woman up there was in a crucial moment with her heart attack so minutes were necessary to save her.
The rescue was really difficult because the lady was panicked and uncooperative, yet the rescuers were real professionals and they got her out of the car in no time at all. After that, they used a toboggan to bring her down the hill where the ambulance was waiting. Soon, the ski lift started operating to deliver all the other passengers to the station. As soon as every passenger was safely on the ground, the ski lift was closed for the day as it needed some more serious check-up.
I was lucky to catch the moment of such an amazing rescue with my camera, however I was really sorry about the whole thing. I wouldn't like something of that kind happened to me or my family.
