The text is about Victor Gruen, a famous architect. He wanted to make American cities look pretier so he designed Southdale - the first shopping centre which was located near Minneapolis. What was different about this centre was the fact that all the shopswere under the same roof and there was a lovely garden with a cafe in the middle. Even though Southdale was a great success, other shopping centres didn't match Gruen's dream - they were ugly and surrounded by cars. He also later found out that the shopping centres in Vienna also became ugly like those in America.
