W zadaniach spośród podanych odpowiedzi wybierz tę, która poprawnie uzupełnia obydwa zdania.

9.1.

• We need to walk for two more hours before we reach the hostel.

• This shelf is too high for me to reach. Could you help me, please?

Jednymi ze znaczeń  czasownika "reach" są  "docierać" oraz "sięgać/dosiegać".

  • reach the hostel - dotrzeć do hostelu
  • reach (this shelf) - dosięgnąć (tę półkę)

9.2.

• I don't know how much this bag weighs, but it's too heavy for me to carry.

• Mark was late for work because of heavy traffic in the city centre.

"Heavy" może oznaczać zarówno "cieżki", jaki i "duży/wielki".

  • too heavy to carry - zbyt ciężkie by nieść
  • heavy traffic - duży/wielki korek

9.3.

• Don't worry about finding cheap accommodation when you come to Poland this summer. My neighbour has got a room to let.

Wśród znaczeń czasownika "let" znajdują się "pozwalać/zezwalać" oraz "wynajmować".

  • a room to let - pokój do wynajęcia
  • his parents won't let him - jego rodzice nie pozwolą mu

9.4.

• Walk down the street, take the second turning on the left and you'll see the bank.

• Yesterday he fell down a hole and broke his arm.

Słowo "down" dodane do czasownika może zmieniać jego znaczenie.

  • walk down the street - iść wzdłuż/w dól ulicy
  • fall down - spaść, upaść

9.5.

• Sorry, but l can't give you a lift to the station. My car has broken down.

  • give someone a hand - pomóc komuś
  • give someone a lift - podwieźć kogoś

W tego typu zadaniach warto dokładnie przeczytać oba zdania. Z reguł jedna z odpowiedzi (oprócz tej właściwej) pasuje również do jednego z podanych zdań, ale dla drugiego jest błędna.
