‘Ouch!’ Caroline scratched the back of her thigh as we were walking along a forest path. ‘What’s the matter?’ I asked. ‘It’s OK. I guess a bug has just bitten me’, she said and kept walking. (1)___ ‘I can’t breathe’, she whispered. She could hardly stand on her feet and looked very pale. I looked at her leg, which was awfully swollen now. Something was terribly wrong with her. I tried to think quickly. I’d left my mobile in the car as the battery was flat, (2)___ We were already a few kilometres away from it. Then I heard the sound of a car passing nearby. ‘There’s a road near here!’ I thought. Caroline was really unwell. I had to put her arm around my neck and we started walking very slowly. When we reached the road, I carefully put her on the ground, with her back against a road barrier. A moment later I saw a car coming towards us, so I ran into the middle of the road. (3)___ The car stopped and the driver got out. I pointed at Caroline, sitting at the side of the road ‘Please, get us to the hospital!’ I shouted.
