A lorry driver was driving 200 penguins to London Zoo when his lorry broke down on the motorway. The driver got out of the cab and was looking at the engine when a second lorry driver stopped in front of him and asked if he needed help. The penguins' driver explained that he was taking the penguins to the zoo and asked if the other man would take the penguins there. He agreed.
Today was not a good day. First of all, my alarm clock didn't ring. Then, while I was having a shower, my dad went to work so I had to walk to school. It was raining and I got very wet. When I walked into class everyone was studying hard and in silence. The teacher looked at me and said, 'Good afternoon John. How nice of you to join us. 'Everyone laughed. I was so embarrassed.
Past Simple używamy, gdy mówimy o krótkich czynnościach, które wydarzyły się jedna po drugiej, np:
- zatrzymał się / stopped
- zapytał / asked
Past Continuous używamy, gdy mówimy o czynności, która trwa jakiś czas, np:
- brałam prysznic / I was having a shower
Jeśli jedna czynność "przeszkodziła" drugiej, dłuższej, używamy obu czasów w jednym zdaniu. Present Continuous opisuje czynność wykonywaną dłużej, a Present Simple tą, która się "wtrąciła", np:
- wszyscy uczyli się w ciszy (past continuous), kiedy weszłam do klasy (past simple) / Everyone was studying hard and in silence when I walked into class.
