Adulthood is a pipe dream that many teenagers yearn for and they think that when they turn 18 the world will suddenly be different.
However, they overlook the age of 16, which is a borderline that goes unnoticed by most, but is, despite appearances, of great importance. From the age of 16, you are responsible for your actions, so if you commit a crime, you will be punished as an adult. Apart from that, there are no major differences, except that you can watch any film in the cinema, even the most violent ones. However, being 18 is a different story. From that magical day of their 18th birthday, everyone becomes a citizen in their own right. You can basically do everything that any adult can do. From that moment on, you don't have to go to school, you can consume legalised drugs, there are no age limits. You can even vote for your favourite politician in parliamentary or presidential elections. It is a time when most can enjoy all the privileges of adulthood without making any of the commitments typical of adulthood, i.e. not working, getting money from parents and having the same rights as them.
Personally, I think that the legal age of majority is well established by our wonderful legislators, who have made sure that every teenager can enjoy freedom without any obligations, which would be impossible if we became adults at the age of, say, 19 or 20, because then we are already out of high school and the ominous spectre of professional work appears.
