Cellphones have access to the internet that can help us communicate with other people. If you have somebody's number or have them added to your friends list on Messenger, Facebook or Discord you can call or chat with them. It is very helpful because without that we wouldn't be able to learn and talk with our friends and family which I find depressing and boring. Although using the internet is cool we have to be careful because people on the internet aren't always who they say they are.
