I’m a British solder fighting in the “Great War”. It’ so hard to live such a life when you don’t know what the next day will bring. I know I’m not the only one who feels sad, depressed and unsure these days, but this war takes so long that I want to go home. But I know I can’t and this depresses me the most.
Each day is very similar to the previous one. If I’m not on duty, I wake up early morning, get a simple breakfast which I very often have to make myself and go to the trench to replace other soldiers who were on duty overnight. As I’m just a private solder, I don’t have to make any decisions, which is good. I only listen to my superiors and trust they know what is best for me and for the whole British army. So I obey the orders and pray that nothing bad happens, no enemy reaches us so I can survive and come back home soon.
There are days when I’m depressed, especially when a soldier is killed but anyway I try to be as positive as possible. I know my role and I have to do what I have to do. Talking to my friends soldiers who also became my friends helps me to get better. We often talk about our families who wait for us. This helps us to smile and not to go crazy. I know the war will be over one day and this will be the best day in my life when I finally meet my family again and no one will lose his life.
